Hi there fans of The Thread Affect! I am Suzie from www.suziegaffney.com and I am so excited to be doing a guest post for Megan while she is in Thailand. I created a website for my wardrobe consulting business, which led to my entry into the blog world. I have been following Megan for some time now from my little corner of the world here in Pennsylvania as she travels the world, looking fabulous all while living out of a suitcase! How does she do that? And never take a bad photo? Her sock bun tutorial has saved me from so many bad hair days, although my hubby has been walking around looking for the partners to his dark socks that were sacrificed for their perfect shade of brunette ;)
One of the hottest topics in the style world right now is the Pantone Institute’s “Color of the Year.” Pantone is a company known as the authority on color. You can read more about their history here . Every year Pantone declares a specific shade to be the “Color of the Year.” Last year was Tangerine Tango and for 2013 it is Emerald.
I love fashion but I do not believe in being a slave to trends. Trends are what make the fashion world spin and it is great to try them out, IF you like the trend, IF it works for your shape, and your lifestyle. I loved that hats were having a moment this past Fall but every time I tried one on my daughter said I looked like a version of an American Girl doll. She was right. I did. I happen to love all shades of green so I am super excited to explore this color trend, but in order to avoid looking like Kermit the frog (although he is super cute) it’s best to work in small doses. Accessories are perfect for that. The Jolie necklace from the Stella and Dot Spring and Summer 2013 is on my list as a must-have.
I thought it would be fun to put together a Polyvore board based on how I could picture Megan wearing this necklace, which I think would totally make her eyes pop.
The JCrew sailor stripe is a classic t-shirt that will work back to many things she already has in her wardrobe. The navy blazer is perfect for layering in different climates. And she already has a fabulous version of leopard flats which she has posted about before.
With all Megan’s traveling her clothes need to multi-task and do double duty. A quick swap of the flats for some fab heels, a grab of the amazing Michael Kors clutch and she is ready to go out. The necklace works day or night depending on the look. She is on trend without screaming the trend.

Big, huge gigantic Thank you to Megan for having me!! And see if you spot the Emerald trend on your travels :)
